John
Barry migrated from the twin-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad & Tobago in
1989 to attend college in the US. In 1992 he graduated from the University of
the District of Columbia with a bachelor's degree in Mass Media Studies. Two
years later he received his master's degree in Communication Arts from the New
York Institute of Technology. He spent the next four years in the corporate
video world working in the multimedia services department of the Practising
Law Institute in New York City. From there he moved on to Bloomberg Television
and the world of live TV. He is currently employed there as a director.
John also dons the cap of independent Writer/Producer/Director combining his training and experience with his general knowledge and understanding of the peoples and cultures of the Caribbean. In 1996 he ventured off on his own briefly to work on his first documentary Dance De Calypso. He has since worked both independently and in collaboration with other production facilities on various other projects. Currently he is developing several new ideas.
Barry's involvement with CaribNation dates back to 1996, he handles the distribution of the program in the New York area. Through his efforts CN is aired Monday nights at 10:00pm on Brooklyn Cable Access Television. He is currently making arrangements for it to be also seen in Queens, New York and parts of New Jersey.
